The hybrid work model – a study
Research by the International Workplace Group shows that the hybrid work model plays an important role in promoting gender equality and supporting women’s career development. It allows employees to alternate between working from different locations, including local offices, head office and home. This provides flexibility and convenience while maintaining work-life balance.
Highlights:
- Over 70% of women (71%) say that the hybrid work model has had a positive impact on their professional development.
- The survey of more than 1,000 women found that hybrid work (64%) was rated as almost twice as important as parental leave (35%) in supporting them in the workplace. This is due to a number of benefits that the hybrid model provides, such as better work-life balance (56%), greater flexibility (58%) and time savings from commuting (53%).
Gender equality policy:
- Evidence suggests that hybrid work plays a significant role in achieving gender equality in the workplace. More than half of women (56%) indicate that it is the hybrid model that has helped them rise to higher positions. A similar percentage (52%) felt that increased flexibility was key to their career progression.
- Regardless of age, a significant proportion of women (70%) noted that flexible working had helped level the playing field. However, there is still much to be done. The World Economic Forum predicts that if the current rate of progress continues, it will take until 2158 (approximately five generations) to achieve full gender equality. Half of women (53%) believe that flexibility will play a critical role in achieving this progress.
Productivity:
- Most women (82%) say they are more productive and efficient when they have the freedom to choose where they work. A study conducted by Stanford professor Nicholas Bloom shows that the hybrid model leads to an average increase in productivity of 3% to 4%, which can significantly improve overall outcomes.
- Companies that offer such flexibility also win – flexible working models improve productivity and retention. Overall, 69% of companies with flexible policies report increased employee productivity. The same percentage reported a better ability to attract and retain talent.
